Four years have passed since Caesar exploded onto the music scene with his second album “Case Study 01”, and since then the Grammy award winner has largely kept to himself.
Never Enough is an introspective reintroduction to his musical persona and explores themes like death, love and maturation.
Caesar grew up in Oshawa, Ontario – a suburb of Toronto – attending a Christian private school and listening to gospel music with his family. At 17, however, his housemates kicked him out as they prepared for graduation; prompting Caesar to pursue music full time as his career path.
Pilgrim’s Paradise was an enormously successful EP that solidified him as an up-and-coming talent in R&B music. Critics quickly took notice of his smooth voice and emotive lyrics – helping establish him as an up-and-comer on the R&B scene.
His latest album, NEVER ENOUGH, is an intimate and introspective collection of songs with refined production values that allow Caesar’s vocals to take center stage – such as on “Buyer’s Remorse”, with its distorted chords evoking youthful romance. Caesar has collaborated with artists such as FKA Twiggs and Charlotte Day Wilson. Furthermore, together with Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett he co-founded Golden Child Recordings independent label.
Daniel Caesar makes his long-awaited return with an album entitled NEVER ENOUGH that sounds as though he never left. With its sweet love songs about relationships and its innovative production techniques, NEVER ENOUGH provides Daniel with his signature brand of emotive music and angelic singing voice.
On “Cool,” Caesar imagines himself playing alone in his room when younger, while on “Disillusioned” featuring serpentwithfeet he chronicles his fear of growing old and losing his youth. Both songs feature dreamy instrumentals and dreamy vocals to highlight Caesar’s poetic language and daydream-like sentiments.
Audience members cheered wildly when Caesar performed two of his hits – Japanese Denim” and Best Part (Featuring H.E.R and Kali Uchis) which have become staples in his set list and showcase his ability to blend R&B and Electronic music genres seamlessly. Even after taking an extended hiatus from music production, his career remains undamaged; producing some of the most authentic yet entertaining material out there today.
Daniel Caesar uses music to reflect his personal experiences through lyrics that express his voice. A multi-platinum Grammy winner who has built his name across contemporary R&B genres from contemplative soul to intergalactic alternative music; his songwriting style draws influence from gospel while production spans multiple genres.
Freudian is his debut album and it captures all aspects of love from despair to pure ecstasy, with subtle elegance to bold passion evident throughout its production.
His music captures all the complexity of human emotion from songs that invoke slow heartache to songs addressing existential concerns – all reflecting his spirituality in a refreshing manner in an age when so many artists sound the same. With intimate poetry and daydreamy melodies that keep listeners entranced throughout each track, no wonder he is such an in-demand performer!
Religion has played an influential role in his life, yet he defies classification by continually pushing the limits of his sound, exploring themes such as love and spirituality while remaining grounded in reality. For instance, he even reworked Kanye West’s “Street Lights,” showing his ability to balance spirituality with daily reality.
His song “Cyanide,” for instance, pays homage to both his Jamaican roots and religious upbringing in its lyrics that speak about how God heals all wounds. This spiritual element adds another depth to Caesar’s music which already incorporates throwback R&B with classic gospel influences for an unparalleled soulful sound that cannot be duplicated anywhere else – making this new artist stand out in an otherwise generic music industry – so don’t sleep on him; his soulful sound will surely make waves and ease you back into nostalgia or encouragement with its soothing sounds – you won’t regret listening in.
