Dylan Mamid and Zachary Rapp-Rovan, better known to their fans as Zeds Dead, are a genre-defying duo renowned for blending aggressive dubstep with drum’n’bass, hip hop and even metal music genres. Additionally, these tastemakers operate one of dance music‘s leading labels: Deadbeats Records.
As big-room styles evolved during the second half of 2010, Zeds Dead continued to push boundaries through innovative tracks such as 2021’s serrated “POWA.” Their debut album Northern Lights followed suit.

DC and Hooks initially joined forces in 2004 as Mass Productions, producing one hip hop-influenced independent album entitled Fresh Beetz in 2007. They then formed Zeds Dead in 2009 and created Bassmentality club night in a small Toronto bar – it quickly become a hub for bass music scene with performances by prominent acts like Skrillex, Borgore, Nero and Camo & Krooked among many more.
Deadbeats was established as their own record label and platform to promote bass culture in 2016. Since then, it has expanded into an all-encompassing lifestyle and events brand. Northern Lights marked the peak of their artistic journey and features collaborative efforts with artists like Diplo, Twin Shadow, Pusha T and Rivers Cuomo from Weezer.
On the night before Thanksgiving, college students often gather to get drunk and dance to bass music that only they understand. At Ritchie Coliseum at the beginning of this particular evening, there was an abundance of double-knotted shoes and LED rave lights visible within its crowd.
