28th October 2024Brett Goldstein hails from Sutton in England. As a child he participated in performing and writing plays that made their debut at Edinburgh Fringe Festival before going on to study Film Studies at Warwick University.

Ted Lasso
Goldstein is an actor, writer and producer best known for his award-winning role as Roy Kent on Apple TV+ sports comedy Ted Lasso, having co-created it alongside Jason Sudeikis as its main regular.
The show, about an American football coach plucked from relative obscurity to coach another type of soccer, is both entertaining and touching, delving deeply into loss, fatherhood and rebellion against sentimentality – Goldstein has often spoken openly about his dislike of episodes ending in tears.
He’s also been open about his appreciation of The Muppets, drawing cheers of delight from fans when he posted a video in 2022 showing himself performing an all-one rendition of The Muppets Christmas Carol at a Parkinson’s UK fundraiser. Additionally, he pitched an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice featuring himself as Mr. Darcy and Miss Piggy as Elizabeth Bennet!
The Muppets
Muppets have made their presence felt in popular culture throughout their history in many forms. Aside from recurring on Conan O’Brien with Kermit being wired up to spray fake vomit, they have also appeared in Broadway musical Avenue Q and various television series such as The West Wing, Family Guy and Robot Chicken which feature characters similar to Muppet puppets.
While Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy may be the centerpiece of the Muppets, their house band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, is an absolute must-see for music fans everywhere – their gravelly voices and impressive keyboard skills make them superstars onstage!
Muppets Mayhem, the new Disney+ series featuring Lilly Singh, Tahj Mowry and Saara Chaudry as members of their fictional band played by Bill Barretta, Eric Jacobson, Matt Vogel, David Rudman and Dave Goelz, is set against their never-ending world tour to record their first album.
Adult Life Skills
Learning life skills is vital if you want to enhance your physical and emotional well-being, develop stronger work ethics or simply become more independent. There are various resources and training programs online which offer lessons in essential life skills like cooking, budgeting and financial management.
Adult Life Skills stands out as a small-town indie comedy with a distinct sense of gravity, keeping it from sinking into dark comedy territory. Tunnard keeps us at arm’s length from many aspects of Anna’s backstory for as long as possible – until eventually we are forced to confront something which greatly affected Anna.
Jodie Whittaker gives a moving performance as Anna, still grieving the death of her brother and living alone in her mother’s garden shed. A visit from an old acquaintance and Brendan’s bumbling chat-up attempts offer Anna some much needed emotional support that allows them to start living again.
Doctor Who
The Doctor is an alien from a race known as Time Lords who travels through space and time nonlinearly. Unlike humans, Time Lords can live for centuries while regenerate into new bodies when injured or killed.
An Unearthly Child marked our introduction to William Hartnell as William the Doctor and since then there have been eleven different incarnations of him as well as multiple spin-off books, comic strips and films featuring him.
Fugitive of the Judoon marked a groundbreaking step when Jo Martin took over Capaldi as Doctor, marking both their first portrayal of an African American female Doctor as well as one of few episodes to ditch both TARDIS and Face in Intros for that character.
Brett Goldstein serves as co-executive producer and writer on Apple TV+’s Peabody Award-winning comedy Ted Lasso, playing ageing footballer Roy Kent. Additionally, he has appeared in Ricky Gervais’s Derek and Catherine Tate’s Nan.
