Whiskey Myers have made it clear since their debut that their performances are nothing ordinary. Boasting live performances that leave audiences breathless and music that speaks of themes like pride, faith and desire – such as “On the River” transporting listeners back to frontier times or “Frogman” documenting an ex-Navy SEAL’s bravery in Afghanistan – Whiskey Myers brings heartfelt twists to Southern rock.
Whiskey Myers, an East Texas country rock band comprised of Cody Cannon, John Jeffers, Gary Brown and Jeff Hogg is rooted in rural and musical upbringings from their respective hometowns in Texas. Through hard gigging experience and developing musical telepathy between one another they have perfected their craft as musicians – often reduced to stereotypes due to Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers Band influences but which can draw influence from many sources including country, R&B, psychedelic rock as well as string band traditions.
In 2007, the band first formed in Palestine, Texas. Initially, they performed private parties on flatbed trailers in small towns around Texas before playing their debut gig at Montalba. Their onstage chemistry quickly became evident and soon enough the band quickly began selling out venues.
By 2011, the band had established itself as a regional sensation. Their second album Road of Life provided further momentum; streaming statistics for their songs skyrocketed; and inclusion on Paramount Network series Yellowstone propelled them towards national fame.
Exposure from the show increased ticket sales for their performances and opened doors for them to bring in larger talent, including Reckless Kelly, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Randy Rogers as guest artists on their bill. Now they are selling out venues that previously served as bonfires. Whiskey Myers are an eclectic blend of southern rock, jam band improvisation and modern day Texas country sound that sell out venues that used to hold only bonfires!
Though they’ve achieved much, Whiskey Myers still remain grounded in their home state. Touring extensively and engaging with their fans are central components to staying relevant; but their primary focus remains writing, playing, and creating. Their dedication has paid dividends; three of their songs have already been certified platinum. Now with Tornillo out and tours scheduled ahead, there is no question that their future looks bright.
