Brett Goldstein Is Still Busy With His TV and Movie Projects
15th November 2024Warren Haynes is one of the most versatile musicians alive today, having spent 25 years performing with The Allman Brothers Band while touring extensively with them and also touring regularly with The Grateful Dead.
Haynes recently released his solo album Million Voices Whisper with Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers Band appearing on multiple tracks including Gregg Allman’s original work entitled “Real Real Love,” a track Haynes completed to honor him.
About Warren Haynes
Warren Haynes is one of music‘s premier storytellers. A fixture in three iconic live bands — Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts Band and the Grateful Dead — his remarkable artistry has resulted in thousands of memorable performances and millions of album/track sales worldwide.
Ashes & Dust is Haynes’ most intimate album to date; an intimate collection of songs that had been in his heart for years or decades before finding a place on record. The result is an exquisite work of beauty that explores themes of life, loss and the search for redemption.
Warren Haynes Band and Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience are currently touring with their Now Is the Time Tour, performing two sets of symphonic music from across Haynes’ vast catalog as well as new material.
Gov’t Mule
Warren Haynes is one of music’s greatest storytellers. He has held positions with three of rock’s best live bands as well as producing critically-acclaimed solo albums throughout his storied career. Now on tour with Dreams and Songs Symphonic Experience is looking to breathe new life into classic material with full orchestra accompaniment for live concerts based around classic material performed over the course of an evening concert experience.
Haynes had experience touring with the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration and therefore took an orchestral approach for this new venture. Additionally, Americana band Railroad Earth helped shape his vision while remaining open to experimentation and the unexpected.
Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott will join Grammy award-winning drummer Terence Higgins (of Grammy award-winning two-time WHB member Dirty Dozen Brass Band), and saxophonist Greg Osby on vocals and guitar with Haynes providing vocals and guitar as part of this all-star tour lineup. Two-time Grammy award winning keyboardist John Medeski from Medeski Martin & Wood will serve as keyboardist during their fall shows as well.
The Allman Brothers Band
After Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident, Dickey Betts struggled to keep the Allman Brothers Band going without him. He even attempted recording albums under his own group Great Southern but they never reached the same levels of success as before.
Haynes went on to join the Allman Brothers Band for 25 years after founding Gov’t Mule and tour extensively alongside them, as well as with other members such as Derek Trucks and Oteil Burbridge.
While The Allman Brothers Band’s 1973 album Brothers and Sisters was predominantly rock in nature, its songs also contained elements of bluegrass, country and jazz music. Tracks like “Jesica” would pair perfectly with an orchestral soundscape.
Voices
Warren Haynes can often be found filling in for an absent guitarist in legacy bands or leading Gov’t Mule on tour, yet when it comes to solo recordings he typically goes under his own name. Million Voices Whisper, released November 1st marks his first solo set since 2007, reflecting his varied interests with unwavering conviction and no obvious labels attached to it.
This record features torch ballads, soulful psych and funky sunset explorations in various frameworks. A powerful band featuring John Medeski on keys, Terence Higgins on drums and Kevin Scott (of Gov’t Mule fame) provides extra depth and strength for this self-produced effort.
“These Changes,” written with Derek Trucks and featuring them trading leads over an ascending central lick, sets the scene. Jamey Johnson and Lukas Nelson also contribute guest vocals on “Day of Reckoning,” an album closer that celebrates life through universal messages of hope and strength in numbers.
