Turnpike Troubadours may be country music‘s hardest working band. Comprised of singer-songwriters Evan Felker and Kyle Nix, fiddle player Hank Early, guitarist Ryan Engleman, bassist RC Edwards, and drummer Gabe Pearson, since returning on May 14 they’ve been touring across the country with one sold out show after another — most recently Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre sold out upon their full return for good! Fans had long anticipated this momentous occasion when fans had welcomed back their musical talent; literary songs with foot stoming melodies created an identity of their own in an age when Big Country music had become just another genre.
Turnpike Troubadours have long been beloved favorites among their fans, yet something special remains about their live performances. From headlining arenas to small town diners, Turnpike Troubadours’ music shines brightest when performed live – something “Before The Devil Knows We’re Dead” proves when seen onstage with so much energy that even longtime listeners become entranced by its infectious energy.
After an extended six year hiatus from performing, Felker resumed leading Reckless Kelly while Nix and Edwards/Pearson kept working on R.C and The Ambers as side projects – all the while keeping his magic alive by producing unforgettable shows for their loyal fanbase. Felker kept the band alive during this period by consistently staging amazing shows at incredible venues around town – which brought new members in like Engleman from Reckless Kelly; Nix started up his own band; Engleman played with Reckless Kelly while Engleman continued playing with Reckless Kelly while Nix created new projects of his own; Engleman played with Reckless Kelly while Nix started his own new band while Engleman joined Reckless Kelly while Nix started up their own projects such as Reckless Kelly; Engleman also played with Reckless Kelly while Engleman played with Reckless Kelly; Nix initiated new band R.C and The Ambers side project; Edwards Pearson continued collaborating as R.C and The Ambers side project, while Edwards Pearson continued working together through R.C and The Ambers side project alongside Edwards/Pierson as R.C and Pearson continued providing incredible shows that made their fans very much appreciated during this hiatus putting on incredible shows during this hiatus period by providing incredible shows for dedicated fanbase to maintain momentum before their respective projects took part reckless Kelly while Nix started new band Nix started her new one-Off which were all kept alive through performing incredible shows himself during this hiatus by always making sure shows, no matter where else everyone involved to put on shows while keeping alive through Edwards/Pi.IIA while Edwards/PIIA side project R/PI was always keeping alive through and continued side project R&Am! As soon as they returned on May 5, Turnpike released their first single in six years titled “Mean Old Sun.” The track features tight instrumental melodies, expressive voiceover by Felker and tight instrumental arrangements to tell an emotionally charged tale of heartache and loss. Their long-awaited album A Cat in the Rain will be out August 25th under producer Shooter Jennings’ supervision.
As Turnpike Troubadours prepare to release their third album, here are 10 Turnpike Troubadours songs every country fan should hear at least once. These classic and new tunes showcase how reliable Turnpike Troubadours have remained as one of country music‘s hardest working bands while always staying true to its roots. Alabama may record a Bro-Country song or Sturgill Simpson may experiment with synthesizers; yet Turnpike Troubadours remain reliable as one of country music‘s premier bands.
