On their upcoming tour, they do not disappoint: stopping at Washington, D.C.’s Warner Theatre Tuesday through Thursday before moving onto Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre Saturday night for performances with a distinct American flare.
They are more than a band; they are an incredible force for good. Their message focuses on healing, reconciliation and connecting. Not shy to speak truth when confronted by difficult subjects; yet always doing it with grace, humor, and incredible talent.
TTB are well known for their incredible instrumental prowess; however, on their latest album Revelator they focused on songwriting instead of jams; Tedeschi’s soulful vocals with Bonnie Raitt-inspired ache was front and center, while Trucks’ pointed slide guitar flights added even greater drama; all together this ensemble sounds as though it has been together since the dawn of time.
Tedeschi also features several ballads on her album that go beyond mere sentimentality; “Shame,” an indictment of moral decay within America’s institutions and culture, is one such song where Tedeschi sings with full force – creating both anger and hope with every note she sings.
Revelator may be the band‘s most musical record yet, yet its predecessor – 2014’s Wait For Me – highlighted their ability to transition between covers (Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright”) and original songs seamlessly. Revelator features one such original track: an uplifting title track offering hope in times of despair.
TTB have made a point to stay away from getting too specific with character names and dialogue. By not doing so, their songs don’t become bogged down with concept albums while at the same time becoming timeless; their version of Eric Clapton’s Layla serves as one long unrequited love song.
