Since their unexpected beginnings in a Southern Utah piano shop, The Piano Guys have established themselves as one of the premiere entertainment groups around. Fusing popular songs with classical pieces into unforgettable performances like their one at Lyric Theatre last night.

These guys were born to perform live and their night of sheer entertainment was ensured with hilarious banter among themselves and some wonderful music. Jon even demonstrated some foot ivories at one point! Steven proved his worth on cello as well, playing it like a guitar; slapping and hitting.

They combine beautiful music with stunning videos shot at landmarks like the Great Wall of China and under Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio. Their YouTube channel has amassed over half a billion views; additional scenes were shot at Iguazu Falls and in an ice cave; their aim is to shoot music videos at each of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

They’re funny

The Piano Guys are a quartet of hilarious dads who have taken YouTube by storm with their unique blend of popular songs and classical music performed live in breathtaking videos in unique settings. Additionally, these guys engage with their audiences and interact witty with them to elicit laughter from them while drawing much-deserved adoration from fans worldwide.

Paul Anderson of Utah Piano Store provided them with their initial inspiration by filming Schmidt playing piano in his shop and uploading those videos onto YouTube. Soon thereafter they added Nelson on cello and Al Van der Beek as directors for these videos.

As a group, they have traveled around the globe filming music videos and are now ready to hit the stage. Their goal is to perform at all seven wonders of the world including beaches, speeding trains and even China’s Great Wall!

Success comes at a price, however. Producing their videos can be costly, forcing them to choose between business and music production. But they found a solution by prioritizing list building.

Starting off as musicians and friends who worked together at a piano store in St George, Utah. Paul Anderson hired Jon Schmidt as marketing help before recruiting Steven Sharp Nelson and Al van der Beek to form the band.

Paul Anderson began The Piano Guys after looking for new ways to promote his piano store business. After reaching out to pianist Jon Schmidt and cellist Steven Sharp Nelson – both musicians agreed to record performances for YouTube – Anderson and Nelson collaborated with video producer Al Van der Beek to form The Piano Guys.

Since their debut in 2011, The Piano Guys have become an incredible success story. Since their first video was uploaded, over 2.5 billion views have been earned on YouTube alone, selling over 10 million albums worldwide and their latest project “10” honoring 10 years since their start celebrating this momentous achievement. They’ve performed at some of the world’s most breathtaking venues including playing for President Obama at The Great Wall of China!
