Celebrity folk-rock band The Avett Brothers will tour across North America during spring, summer and fall 2017, offering heartwarming shows in arenas and amphitheaters across North America. Sets will feature songs from their first new album in five years: The Avett Brothers.
Recorded across Malibu’s Shangri-La Studios, Nashville’s Music Row Studios, Mar Vista in California and their native Concord NC, the nine track album marks an intentional revamp for this legendary Americana outfit.
The Avett Brothers are an engaging live act. Their energetic performances are great fun for all involved; fans truly get into it too! Their exhilarating show at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena on Friday was proof of this fact.
The group kicked off their two-hour set with “Talk on Indolence,” an engaging tune which got the crowd on their feet immediately. It marked the first of many new songs as well as some nostalgic numbers by Scott and Seth Avett (guitars and vocals), banjoist Paul Shaffer, upright bassist Bob Crawford and cellist Joe Kwon; all members kept the energy high throughout.
The Avett Brothers return with their debut album since 2013, The Avett Brothers, out May 17th through Ramseur Records/American Recordings/Thirty Tigers and produced by Rick Rubin. Sonically, this record encapsulates their genre-defying musical style; opening with an intimate vocal moment that caresses listener ears before breaking out into “Love of a Girl”. These gentle souls boast both heart and sound in live performances by The Avett Brothers!
As the Avett Brothers took the stage at Beak and Skiff for their inaugural performance at Beak and Skiff on April 7, they immediately set the crowd into a celebratory mood with their powerful renditions of “Laundry Room,” followed by country-influenced versions of “Old Joe Clark.” The group ended their set with another stunning rendition of “Old Joe Clark.”
There were plenty of other highlights as well, like the poignant ballad “Love of a Girl” and lively gospel number “Colorshow.” If dancing wasn’t already enough to get you moving, the band provided one last big boost through energetic number “Bella Donna”.
While their show was truly captivating, The Avett Brothers are known for their incredible recordings as well. Their latest effort, self-titled album is a remarkable effort which proves they still can perform at such high levels after such a lengthy hiatus from performing. This album delivers some musical surprises that should satisfiy fans who were beginning to question whether the group had settled into its familiar routine. It marks an excellent return-to-form from an ensemble that won’t slow down anytime soon. The Avett Brothers will offer audiences nationwide the chance to hear their new album in its entirety during a series of just-announced listening events on May 15. Tickets for these free events can be purchased here; additionally, participating independent record stores nationwide have limited edition vinyl of the new album that features special artwork and exclusive bonus tracks not present on standard versions of it.
