GRAMMY-nominated folk-rock band The Avett Brothers have released ten studio albums and an Oscar-nominated film since their first studio effort was released, earning them GRAMMY nominations along the way. As 2019 saw COVID-19 spread rapidly across North America, two sold out drive-in shows at Charlotte Motor Speedway became essential connections with fans during that period – both events took place during 2019 in their home base of Charlotte Motor Speedway near their base at Ramseur Records/American Recordings/Thirty Tigers/RAMSRameur Records/American Recordings/Thirty Tigers are back with new album Magpie and Dandelion produced by Rick Rubin for release now on Ramseur Records/American Recordings/Thirty Tigers/Thirty Tigers!
The Avett Brothers are as authentic as it gets; family-centered, hardworking musicians dedicated to their craft. They treat their audience like family and are as dedicated to entertaining and connecting as they are to one another and their music.
Scott and Seth Avett take turns sharing lead vocal duties, harmonizing beautifully together. As musicians they make an excellent team; their guitars and banjos complement one another beautifully while they switch instruments quickly for melody or harmony, creating a sound similar to Uncle Tupelo and early Wilco – yet uniquely their own!
Magpie and the Dandelion is similar to its predecessor, The Carpenter, which reached No. 4 on Billboard 200 chart in 2012. But there are key distinctions: lyrics are more direct and emotive while production has become rawer and more raw-sounding.
Highlights of this album include title track “When the Sun Goes Down,” as well as single “High Steppin'” – both have become crowd favorites at live performances.
Bob Crawford plays both stand up bass and electric bass; Joe Kwon plays a 1998 Peter Staszel cello; drummer Mike Marsh provides rhythm; Bonnie Avett-Rini adds piano; both Kwon and Crawford have been key members of the group for years and remain integral parts of its sound.
The brothers have an intuitive talent for connecting with their audience; telling stories about life on the farm and with family gives their shows a personal feel, adding another human element. Their worldview is honest and genuine which makes their music easily approachable.
The Avett Brothers will begin their tour this July 5 in Taos, New Mexico before moving on to Red Rocks in Colorado for three shows before traveling north for dates in Missoula, Redmond and Troutdale before ending with stops in Missouri, Wisconsin, Ohio as well as joining City and Colour, Sierra Ferrell Vina Robles Dawes Iron & Wine on select dates – see below for their schedule to find your closest show!
