Whiskey Myers of Texas, fresh off their appearance on Yellowstone, are poised to take the country by storm. We caught up with Cody Cannon and John Jeffers from Whiskey Myers to talk about their new album as well as generational advice from Roger Miller – and more.
Whiskey Myers’ genre-defying music captures its members’ red dirt roots from rural Texas with songs spanning barroom party anthems to slower jams.
The band has earned a reputation for creating an authentic southern sound with personal lyrics, mixing acoustic and electric instruments into their sound, with influences including fellow Texas musicians Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Jerry Jeff Walker; as well as rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band.
Cody Cannon is well suited to his genre-defying band‘s genre-bending sound; guitarists John Jeffers and Cody Tate, bassist Jamey Gleaves and drummer Jeff Hogg each bring something different to each performance, giving all members of the group equal opportunities in front of an audience. When performing together they make sure each performer can shine as each voice and instrument can be clearly heard by audiences in large venues alike.

Whiskey Myers rose quickly through Texas Red Dirt scene, garnering a dedicated following and earning accolades for their music. Recorded their first album with GRAMMY-nominated producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Brandi Carlile), Early Morning Shakes hit #4 on country chart that year; their follow up, Mud, reached #4 later. Their 2019 self-titled release on Wiggy Thump Records coincided with their band feature appearance on Paramount Network hit show Yellowstone where their tracks synced throughout Season 2, propelling their release straight up to #1 spot on iTunes Country Albums chart!

Esquire Magazine has recognized this group, known as Esquire Real, as “the real thing.” They have also found sync success through feature appearances in Paramount neo-western TV series Yellowstone, Netflix’s What/If and Angelina Jolie film Those Who Wish Me Dead.
After performing as the featured act at Rodeo Houston in April, Whiskey Myers will bring their Tornillo Tour to theaters across the United States this fall – with support from JJ Grey & Mofro, 49 Winchester, Cam Allen, Colby Acuff and Angel White on selected dates (depending on market availability).
Whiskey Myers first gained notoriety in 2007 as they opened for Roger Creager at Gator’s Bar and Grill in Gun Barrel City. Their high-energy twin guitars and soulful vocals left an impressionful crowd impressed, prompting more venues across East Texas to invite them perform.
This band has now released six albums and was nominated for a Grammy award in 2023. Their genre-crossing sound has garnered critical and fan acclaim alike; two of their songs, “Ballad of a Southern Man” and “Stone,” have both been certified Gold by RIAA.
