PEOPLE spoke with the pair to gain more insight into their friendship and what qualities each admire most in each other. Recently, the duo released their Netflix special An Evening You Will Forget Forever.
Steve Martin and Martin Short’s iconic comedy duo has delighted audiences for years – whether as SNL alumni or fans of their Netflix special. Both men have an effortless rapport that keeps audiences laughing on TV shows, movies and live performances alike.
Generation Xers will recognize them from Three Amigos! and Father of the Bride films; while millennials might know them better as uptight father and wedding planner from Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building series.
On-screen and real-life friendship are shared between Alec Baldwin and Kristen Wiig; the three even co-starred on SNL in 2006 with one another before sharing the stage at Diane Keaton tribute event in 2017. Now they’re touring together again bringing their unique brand of comedy and music to Wilkes-Barre on Friday evening, performing skits as well as featuring Martin’s banjo band called Steep Canyon Rangers for one last show before hitting up new cities around America.
After two decades of collaboration, Martin and Short have created a spectacular Netflix special. Receiving four Emmy nominations and the Directors Guild of America Award, An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life was taped in Greenville, SC.
This dynamic duo share an affinity for timeless comedy. Their skilled banter pokes fun at outdated pop culture references while simultaneously subverting showbiz conventions; but at the same time they hold great reverence for old-fashioned showmanship and respect for their audience.
They share a longstanding, more than three decade friendship that spans multiple projects, including the award-winning comedy film Three Amigos! and multiple national tours. In addition, they starred together in Father of the Bride films and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building with Selena Gomez; their natural comedy chemistry can be seen both onscreen and off, easily poking fun at celebrity foibles while simultaneously drawing out their co-star’s best qualities.
When they hit the road, this duo goes all out. Their show features brand-new comedy bits and musical sketches with audience participation; they also discuss their long careers and most noteworthy encounters.
Martin and Short have become staples on late night television, performing together both theatrically and on stage. Recently, the two comedians have also appeared in popular Netflix series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

Alongside acting careers, comedy legends also share a passion for bluegrass music as members of Steep Canyon Rangers; on tour will include performances from their band as well as from internationally acclaimed musicians including Jeff Babko (Jimmy Kimmel Live) and Della Mae – among many others.
Martin and Short are living proof that performers need no introduction in showbiz; both have established immensely successful careers as comedians, actors, writers, musicians and more.
Their organic chemistry bloomed during their time on Three Amigos!, and has continued to blossom ever since. Since then they’ve collaborated on many Netflix specials and national live comedy tours, featuring mock insults between each other with obvious affection as well as stories told and played banjo in a bluegrass band called Steep Canyon Rangers.
Martin was honored with an AFI Life Achievement Award, and many of his friends came out to show their support on the red carpet. Diane Keaton from Father of the Bride joined Jack Black, Steve Carell, Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart among many others as attendees of this night.
