Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern — better known by their stage name Sofi Tukker — earned great exposure after their Drinkee song appeared in an Apple Watch commercial. Soon thereafter, Sofi Tukker became popular dance duo headlining clubs and festivals throughout North America as well as making waves on the electronic music scene.

Sofi and Tucker live stream daily, playing DJ sets for their audience of fans. I caught up with them prior to their performance at Baby’s All Right in New York City.

The Story

Sofi Tukker brought an exciting energy to the Miller Lite Oasis during Summerfest 2018. As a duo’s inaugural visit to Milwaukee, they gave an unparalleled show.

Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern are best known for their song, “Best Friend,” which appeared in Apple’s iPhone X commercial. While this song does capture their music beautifully, it doesn’t truly represent all their worldly sounds and influences.

Sofi Tukker blends elements of house, rock, dance and jazz music with Latin and African rhythms to craft their distinct sound. Collaborating with artists such as Nervo, Alok and The Knocks add depth and energy to their infectious rhythms; their energetic yet captivating rhythms encourage fans to move and groove; no wonder companies like Apple and Peloton have chosen Sofi Tukker for their campaigns!

A blend of Portuguese poetry, dance beats, Brazilian funk and drum and bass combined with Sophie’s jazzy bossa nova vocals and Tucker’s DJ expertise, Sofi Tukker make for a potency sound that makes them hard to ignore.

Their stop at the Miller Lite Oasis was no different, opening with Bob’s Dance Shop who provided lively choreographed movements synchronized to their infectious grooves.

Sofi Tukker made their presence felt immediately upon taking to the stage; their energy was infectious and instantly electrified the audience. Working throughout their set to interact with fans and share hugs in the front row was never dull: choreographed dancing sessions to inviting individuals onstage for last dances meant there was never a dull moment!
