Seven Lions’ use of sound manipulation and breaking-the-fourth-wall techniques recalls Hair, the 1967 musical that famously challenged narrative convention.
Seven Lions (real name Jeff Montalvo), is an innovative force in dance music. Since his 2012 EP Polarize to his recent collaborations with Gryffin and Noah Kahan, his music has been widely hailed for combining main room aggression with an emotive edge – offering both main room bombast and an emotive human touch.
He quickly amassed an immense fan base by creating an atmosphere of community at each performance, leading him to launch his own festival Chronicles and expand his influence with Ophelia Records in 2024.
The label has quickly established itself as one of the premiere melodic bass imprints with weekly releases from Kill the Noise, Camo & Krooked and Wooli.
Jeff Montalvo, known by his stage name Seven Lions, has established himself as one of today’s most prolific bass music artists. His sound blends trance and dubstep influences with airy harmonies and haunting vocals for an immersive listening experience that makes listeners feel as though they are experiencing something magical.
California native, Liam Regan made waves when he won a remix contest with his unique interpretation of Above & Beyond’s You Got To Go and subsequent EPs Polarize, Days to Come, and Worlds Apart helped build him an avid following.
Once gaining support from dance music titans such as Porter Robinson, Seven Lions began touring globally and performing at major events like SXSW, EDC Vegas, and Global Dance Festival. In 2018, Seven Lions founded his own melodic bass label Ophelia Records and since then released scene-leading releases with Kill the Noise and Wooli artists; additionally his debut album Behind the Veil has also been released through that label.
Seven Lions has never been known to conform to tradition with his music – his style constantly challenges boundaries and transcends genres in order to realize his creative vision. Adopting his name from Gene Wolfe’s fantasy book Latro in the Mist, Seven Lions uses music as a vehicle to connect with others and inspire them.
After winning a Beatport remix contest with his dubstep-infused version of Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go,” producer Liam Shepard quickly garnered the attention of big names in electronic dance music such as Porter Robinson and Krewella. His genre-bending style led him to headlining gigs at major venues and festivals around the globe.
Ophelia Records is one of many labels where this artist has released EPs and singles, alongside Casablanca Recordings, OWSLA, Viper Recordings, and Anjunabeats. His most recent EP ‘Find Another Way’ features collaborations with new artists April Bender and Tyler Graves as well as HALIENE, Au5 and Crystal Skies; it showcases his skill at crafting beautiful melodies while mixing them into bass-heavy productions.
Jeff Montalvo first found joy in music production through playing drums in high school bands. Soon thereafter, with encouragement from peers and mentors alike, he began to produce trance and dubstep and eventually established the Seven Lions moniker to define his sound.
After winning a remix contest and landing his debut release with Above & Beyond, Seven Lions quickly rose in popularity thanks to DJ support from Armin Van Buuren, Gareth Emery, and more. Additionally, Seven Lions established Ophelia Records – his own melodic bass label dedicated to melodic bass music featuring Kill the Noise, Wooli, Dylan Matthew and Dabin Feat as scene leaders who produce releases under his label’s banner.
