What is Seven Lions?
Seven Lions is an American DJ and producer best known for blending together trance, dubstep and other electronic music styles into an infectious mix that has garnered him massive popularity within the EDM scene. His musical creations often introduce unique sounds that weren’t present or popular before his rise to prominence; unifying trance, progressive house and dubstep genres with melodic cinematic production techniques to form new musical genres like progressive house.
Montalvo began producing trance music after spending his teenage years as a drummer for various punk and metal bands, and quickly caught Above & Beyond’s attention with his remix of their track “You Gotta Go.” Following its success, he released his debut EP Polarize in 2012 before signing with Skrillex’s OWSLA label shortly thereafter.
He had also served as main support for Porter Robinson’s Circle Assembly Tour and had performed at several major festivals during this timeframe. In 2018, he launched Ophelia Records – quickly becoming an essential imprint in bass music with weekly releases from Kill the Noise and Wooli.
Who is Seven Lions?
Seven Lions (real name Jeff Montalvo) first gained attention as a producer by winning a remix competition for Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go.” Since then, the musician has continued pushing boundaries and transcending genres to produce sonically pure music that captures both trance and bass styles in one package.
Montalvo went on to release several EPs and his debut album while touring across the globe. Renowned for his mesmerizing live sets, Montalvo has performed at numerous festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival (New York and Las Vegas) and Red Rocks.
Tritonal, Kill the Noise and Tove Lo are among the many artists he has collaborated with; his most recent release “Over Now” featured vocals by indie-electronic band Vok. This song marked Seven Lions’ return to their signature style: melodic dubstep with an upbeat drop that features beautiful acoustic guitar melodies and captivating vocals similar to old Seven Lions tracks such as “Creation” or their collaboration with Myon & Shane 54 “Strangers.” It stands as one of his strongest releases since his debut release “Strangers.” This track marked his triumphant return as one of his strongest offerings since.
Where is Seven Lions from?
Seven Lions emerged out of drummer Jeff Montalvo’s high school band, which eventually disbanded and left him feeling like creating music himself. He began learning the Fruity Loops production software before eventually discovering electronic dance music as his chosen genre.
On winning first prize in an Above & Beyond “You Gotta Go” remix competition in 2011, Polarize received much-deserved support. Soon thereafter he released his debut EP under his own name titled Polarize.
After debuting with his Days to Come and Worlds Apart EPs in 2014, his Billboard 200 debut came in 2015 with Creation, featuring more of an emphasis on song form with artists like Gryffin and Noah Kahan. 2019 brought forth his Throes of Winter and Start Again EPs alongside collaborations with Skyler Stonestreet and Unlike Pluto; additionally he launched his Ophelia Records label with single “Calling You Home.”
What is Seven Lions’ style of music?
