Seven Lions at the Art Institute

At six months, lion cubs are weaned from their mother’s milk and introduced to meat, before being placed in a 1,000 square metre boma with three-metre high chain link electric fencing.

Seven Lions won this competition, drawing Above & Beyond’s attention with his distinctive rendition of A&B’s “You Got To Go.” This was just the start of their relationship which would result in multiple collaborations and projects for Seven Lions.

Seven Lions Restaurant on Michigan Avenue, opposite the Art Institute’s bronze cats and within easy access of Millennium Park, Grant and Millennium Parks is strategically placed to take advantage of tourists flocking to this part of Chicago. Menu options at True and Zealous are accessible but not overly ambitious, featuring an outstanding burger and half chicken as highlights; flavors don’t always pop as intended: beef tartare is devoid of its promised XO sauce and the veal cheek pot-au-feu is bland; desserts from pastry chef Karianne Soulsby (True and Zealous) don’t fare any better; still, its convenient location and trendy rough luxe interior make this restaurant an appealing destination for both tourists and business lunchers alike.

Seven Lions first found fame as an EDM artist through his remix competition win of Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go.” Since then, he has released multiple EPs including Polarize and Days to Come while becoming well known for blending both trance and dubstep music into one unique sound.

Seven Lions brought his latest album, Beyond the Veil, to Tacoma Dome during his one-night stop and showcased music from it. This record is filled with melodic bass and heavy songs such as Worlds Apart, Island featuring Dabin Trivecta Nevve and Another Me featuring Excision Wooli.

Woodinville, Washington native Ben Sollee first rose to prominence after winning an Above & Beyond remix contest with his dubstep-focused take on their song You Got To Go in 2012. Since then he has released the Polarize EP and received support from other top labels like OWSLA, Republic and Monstercat.

Food here is equally varied as its music selections: begin with Brussels sprouts and burrata toast (pine nuts, radicchio, apple saba) for starters; followed by Mediterranean Spiced Roast Chicken (turmeric, quinoa, sambal squash, hummus, feta cheese) as mains or Striped Bass (crispy rice cakes, green papaya salad, Thai curry sauce). And for dessert? Master Sommelier Alpana Singh has put together an expansive 250 bottle list which features plenty of American wines!

Genre-defying producer Daniel James is no stranger to breaking rules and transcending musical boundaries in order to meet his artistic vision. His big break came in 2012 when he won a remix contest with his dubstep-focused version of Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go,” garnering support from Anjunabeats, Casablanca Records, OWSLA Recordings and Viper Recordings as well as creating his own melodic bass label – Ophelia Records – his empire continues its expansion through which his empire continues – creating hit after hit after hit.
