Ryan Bingham, best known for the ballad “The Weary Kind” from 2009 film Crazy Heart and winning three Grammy awards along the way, will visit Dallas this week to promote his own bourbon brand – Bingham’s Bourbon.
Viewers of Paramount Network’s hit drama Yellowstone will recognize Harrison as ex-con Walker, an imprisoned musician recruited as a ranch hand. Harrison joined the cast as Laramie – an Olympic barrel racer – in 2020.
Bingham’s family has deep ties to Lea County and the rodeo industry, making his grandparents Tom and Fredda eager for him to return home and perform there, but unfortunately his time is taken up with promoting Yellowstone season four as well as his bourbon company.
Bingham’s music transcends classification; its sound draws upon folk, blues, country and rock ‘n’ roll influences while remaining grounded in real life; its inspiration stemming from survival, sacrifice and sometimes just having an enjoyable time. No other musician today sounds quite so authentic as Bingham; his voice bears all the signs of weariness associated with being twice his age.
2020 was a monumental year for Bingham, with him wrapping filming of season 3 of Yellowstone TV show and releasing American Love Song album. Additionally, he co-starred alongside Denzel Washington in movie New Town as well as other high-profile projects on the horizon; all while finding time to connect with fans through daily #StayHomeCantina Sessions social media posts as well as create new music recordings.
As soon as he started performing music professionally, Bingham’s sound defied categorization. His mix of folk, blues, country and rock ‘n roll combined elements from each genre; his vocals possess both worn-in character from someone twice his age combined with youthful determination to persevere and survive.
Bingham found solace in music and writing throughout his turbulent childhood years, using music and songwriting to cope with drug abuse, the deaths of both parents, and an unstable relationship with his mother.
On this album, Bingham shows his ability to move listeners with blistering guitar leads that would put Lightnin’ Hopkins and others from Lone Star State proud – such as on “Endless Ways.” But his true talent comes out when his experienced band stretches out more introspectively on tracks such as “Change Is” or “American Love Song.”
Ryan Bingham has garnered both film and TV success, yet fans remain transfixed by his off-screen romance with Yellowstone costar Hassie Harrison. The couple, who play Walker and Laramie on screen respectively, became engaged in April 2023 before getting married six months later. Harrison revealed during an interview with Vogue that Bingham first proposed during filming!
Bingham, 42, and Harrison, 33, recently made their relationship public on Instagram by sharing an official post depicting them kissing by a bonfire with flames burning high above. Bingham captioned the post for his 633,000 followers with “more than just spark”, tagging Harrison.
Bingham has previously appeared in movies and TV shows such as Dazed and Confused, Back to Lyla, and The Guardian. On Yellowstone he stars as John Dutton III – an eccentric cattle rancher struggling to keep his family and business intact while being supported by an impressive cast including Kevin Costner and Jeremy Davies. Yellowstone returns to Paramount Network later this November.
Ryan Bingham stands out among today’s crop of performers as he captures the heart of country music with his smooth voice, wearied demeanor, and knack for crafting emotive songs with poignancy and emotion. Ryan’s poetic lyricism and emotive delivery can be heard on his sixth studio album American Love Song (out February 15), which also looks towards current political climate issues.
After appearing in Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges, Bingham experienced his breakthrough moment: his song from that film titled “The Weary Kind” earned an Academy Award(r), Golden Globe Award(r) and Critics’ Choice Award(r). Not only is Bingham an accomplished recording musician, he’s also well known as an actor.
Grammy-awarding artist Paul Westerberg recently tied the knot with Yellowstone actress Hassie Harrison in a Western-themed ceremony and have shared photos on social media since.
