Ute Indians used this site as a sacred site; later, when western expansion changed the land’s use, John Brisben Walker constructed a platform and started hosting concerts to take advantage of its amazing sound. John performed in 1964 at this venue with The Beatles who started what later became known as The British Invasion tour – as did Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead and Jethro Tull among many others.
This venue hosts an incredible lineup of concerts that regularly sell out its 9,525 seats. Fans bring picnic baskets and blankets for seating on the rocks and hills surrounding the amphitheater; others prefer eating or drinking at one of the on-site restaurants or concession stands. Widespread Panic still manages to fill out an entire theater for sold-out shows every time while remaining committed to their “Tunes for Tots” charity program that raises money for musical instruments for middle and high school students.
