Red Rocks Amphitheatre, one of the world’s iconic venues, should not be missed as a must-see and must-hear destination. Awe-inspiring in both appearance and sound owing to its geological formations, Red Rocks Amphitheatre provides an experience both musicians and music fans dream about experiencing. Over its nearly 60 year history it has hosted iconic concerts by iconic musicians like the Beatles, U2, John Denver, Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead among countless others – among countless others!
The venue consists of sandstone outcrops sculpted by glaciers millions of years ago, used by Ute Indians for centuries, and in the early 1900s Renaissance man John Brisben Walker set up a makeshift stage amid the rocks for performances that featured world-renowned opera singers who raved that she’d never experienced music with better acoustics; eventually becoming one of Utah’s first permanent amphitheatres.
Since Red Rocks opened in 1968, numerous artists have visited it regularly, often choosing it even over more lucrative stadium venues elsewhere. Red Rocks stands as the world’s only natural amphitheater of its kind and offers audiences an unforgettable musical experience – many artists choose Red Rocks even over stadium shows in other cities when available! In 2023 alone there will be nearly daily performances there until mid-November!
Although attending concerts at the venue is certainly impressive, there’s much more to enjoy beyond concerts as well. The visitor center hosts educational displays and documentary on its history as well as a hall of fame featuring performers who’ve performed there. When not hosting concerts the park becomes abuzz with activity featuring locals exercising on its steps as well as tourists enjoying its beautiful surroundings.
An unforgettable tour of the sandstone caves is also an incredible way to appreciate the incredible natural beauty of the park. While some parts may be cold or windy, experiencing these ancient underground caverns is truly remarkable and will allow visitors to appreciate its amazing surroundings.
Ship Rock Grille is an ideal venue for pre-show dining on concert nights, while Row 71 Whisky Bar provides an intimate lounge space where patrons can sip cocktails while taking in some breathtaking cliffside views of Denver.
