Steve Martin and Martin Short are unquestionably iconic comedic duo. After working together for decades, their comedy continues to delight audiences wherever they appear: from Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building to touring together – these two legendary comedians continue to charm audiences worldwide with their magnetic rapport.
Martin first appeared as Father of the Bride in 1991 and in its sequel in 1995; Short played his eccentric daughter’s wedding planner.
Short’s Franck accent may have been inspired by real wedding planners; however, for the second movie it has been softened somewhat; this doesn’t necessarily make him less believable as an actor.
Steve Martin and Martin Short have continued their longstanding partnership ever since their 1986 comedy film Three Amigos with the Hulu original comedy Only Murders in the Building, co-starring Selena Gomez as co-lead actors alongside two Emmy nominations – for Martin as Lead Actor in a Comedy, as well as Martin himself receiving one nomination as Lead Actor in a Comedy.
The first season of this hit show follows Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora – residents at Manhattan apartment building Arconia – as they begin recording a murder podcast while uncovering their own real-life mystery. Martin and John Hoffman co-created and executive produced alongside Dan Fogelman, Jamie Babbit and Jess Rosenthal.
Recently, three hilarious actors returned to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to reprise their sketch show performance with Keaton as they exchanged jokes and sang together for an encore performance from their sketch show.
This duo’s humor frequently borders on subversive, yet remains delightful self-deprecatory fun, thanks to two comedy masters as committed to making each other laugh as they are to making audiences. Their efforts have earned them multiple accolades including an Academy Award(r), five Grammy awards, an Emmy(r), and the Mark Twain award.
Martin had originally proposed Only Murders in the Building while hosting SNL, initially only wanting Short to participate if Martin could star alongside him in it. Short eventually agreed and so began this amazing series!
They have also performed their comedy shows A Very Stupid Conversation and The Funniest Show in Town at the Moment on tour, including this weekend at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino where they will introduce their brand-new act!
This documentary follows Martin as he explores his personal development as he learns to open up more, with help from friends such as Jerry Seinfeld and Lorne Michaels from “Saturday Night Live”. Fatherhood and marriage appear to have broken through a wall he kept up until then, enabling him to connect with people after years of remaining largely distant and guarding his privacy.
Short and Martin are still performing at full strength despite their advanced age, defying expectations that most performers would retire soon. Since 2016, the pair has been touring across America while adding banjo playing into their performances. Even pandemic-related lockdowns did not dampen their spirits – soon, audiences should be in for another treat!
