Born and raised in Nantucket
Meghan Trainor was raised on Nantucket by her parents, Kelli and Gary, along with Ryan and Justin – her two brothers whom she’s very close with and frequently shares photos on social media.
Her smash hit song, “All About That Bass”, became an upbeat dance-friendly tribute to body positivity that helped launch her career and win her the prestigious Grammy award. Since then, she has released multiple albums with an ever-expanding fan base.

She started singing at a young age
At age 11, Trainor began writing songs and recording them using GarageBand on her MacBook. She also learned guitar, ukulele and various percussion instruments before exploring different genres; her father told us she thought she might never become an artist!
At an early age, her parents encouraged her songwriting talent. At one of these conventions she met L.A. Reid who later signed her to Epic Records.
Trainor’s music bridges the genres of pop, R&B and doo-wop; common themes include modern womanhood and personal empowerment.
She grew up in a musical family
Trainor grew up in an artistic family that encouraged her creative pursuits; both her father and sister play piano/ukulele while her brother plays guitar/percussion; additionally, Trainor sings/writes her own music.
At 17, Trainor self-released three albums and received local radio airplay. She received a full scholarship offer to Berklee College of Music but instead decided to focus on song publishing instead.
At a music conference, she met NRBQ member Al Anderson who was impressed by her songwriting abilities. Al referred her to Nashville-based publisher Carla Wallace at Big Yellow Dog Music where they eventually signed as publishing partner Carla Wallace at Big Yellow Dog Music Publishing where she began as a songwriter-for-hire but eventually transitioned into recording artist status.
She’s a self-starter
Meghan Trainor knows how to keep it real when it comes to self-love. With “All About That Bass” introduced body positivity to a younger audience and she became an instant pop culture icon. Meghan’s latest album Takin’ It Back pays homage to her roots in doo-wop era music while detailing her personal journey of self-acceptance.
Trainor made her mark before signing with Epic Records by writing songs for country stars such as Rascal Flatts and Sabrina Carpenter – as well as developing her signature vocal style to take full advantage of it.

She is also an actress and has appeared in various television shows. Currently she serves as a judge on music competition series The Four. As far as musical influences go she cites 1950s music, doo-wop and soca as key influences.
