Imagine Dragons has achieved success that few bands could hope to match, with songs like “Radioactive,” “Believer” and “Thunder” amassing millions of streams on Spotify and YouTube.
Reynolds admits this work can be challenging. As an empath, he understands and feels the suffering of people all around him.
Reynolds draws his musical inspiration from various genres, such as rock and pop music. However, hip-hop stands out as his primary genre; he vividly remembers hearing “Tipsy,” by J-Kwon for the first time and how its beat affected him emotionally. Additionally, Reynolds admires big name producers such as Rick Rubin who produced Imagine Dragons’ latest album Smoke + Mirrors.
Reynolds was raised in a Mormon family and served a mission before attending college. Following graduation, Reynolds decided to pursue music professionally by founding Imagine Dragons after their debut album Night Visions was an overwhelming success and catapulted them to stardom.
As their band has gained more and more fame, Reynolds has used their platform to advocate for social justice issues such as LGBTQ rights. He’s become an outspoken supporter of LGBTQ equality and encourages others to love themselves – something he also advocates for within PEOPLE magazine’s latest issue which goes on sale Friday.

Imagine Dragons bassist Ben McKee grew up in a musically inclined family and was encouraged to pursue his love of music. Attending the University of Las Vegas allowed him to hone his craft, performing with local bands and winning contests in Las Vegas; all this hard work eventually paid off and he has established himself in the world of music.
Imagine Dragons have seen unprecedented success since incorporating his extraordinary bass playing talents. Their distinctive sound and emotive lyrics have resonated strongly with audiences worldwide, leading to multiple chart-topping singles and sold out tours.
Though under constant public scrutiny, talented musician McKee has managed to keep his personal life private; however, recent developments have peaked fans’ curiosity regarding his marriage. McKee currently shares a strong affinity for spicy cuisine with Michelle Branch; both reside in Oakland California where they recently listed their newly renovated Oakland Hills home featuring San Francisco Bay views with a gourmet kitchen designed specifically for professional chefs where he often hosts friends and family for gatherings in that gorgeous space.
Imagine Dragons have been making waves around the globe since 2009 when they formed in Utah, and now make regular appearances at Music Midtown events around Atlanta. Influenced by an eclectic range of artists ranging from Foster the People and Nirvana, their sound stands out among its peers thanks to its own distinct sound.
Though Platzman only joined the band in 2011, his drumming has played a vital role in their success. His work on their debut major album Night Visions helped push them through to mainstream acceptance, while his technique is widely revered within both drummer circles and wider music communities alike.
Platzman recently made headlines when he shared that he is leaving the band to pursue film scoring, sharing it on Instagram along with an emotional post addressed to fans and his band mates Dan Reynolds and Ben McKee both commenting their support and well wishes. We will miss him!
