Warren Haynes is best known as one of the founding members of Gov’t Mule and also has played with Allman Brothers Band and Grateful Dead. Additionally, he founded his own record label called Evil Teen Records.
Haynes will feature his friends from years past at this year’s Christmas Jam event – creating an extraordinary music marathon that benefits local communities.
Haynes’ musical journey has taken him far and wide, but he always makes sure to remain close to Asheville – the mountain town that first inspired him and where he has created an environment conducive to collaboration and creative endeavors.
He has collaborated with various artists such as David Allan Coe, Dickey Betts Band and Allman Brothers Band. Additionally, he toured with Grateful Dead’s surviving members before founding Gov’t Mule as his own group and recording solo acoustic albums.
Haynes is well known for his dedication and talent. He supports charitable initiatives through his platform while serving as an inspiration to younger guitarists. His commitment and talent have earned him much deserved respect among musicians worldwide and remain an example for aspiring guitarists today.
Haynes has spent much of this past year touring with Gov’t Mule and the Grateful Dead. Additionally, he’s played with Phil Lesh & Friends, blues legend Little Milton, Derek Trucks from Widespread Panic and hard rockers Corrosion of Conformity among others.
Haynes will perform songs from his new solo album, Man in Motion. Released by Stax Records after their revival, this record showcases Haynes’ incredible vocal prowess; his deep, muscular growl resembles more that of raw Wilson Pickett than silky Sam Cooke and perfectly complements classic 1960s soul and R&B music.
Haynes has been playing guitar professionally for more than 30 years and still finds every performance exhilarating. He has established himself as an esteemed musician, producer, and philanthropist–organizing annual charity concert events such as Christmas Jam–making his talents sought-after worldwide.
Haynes has performed with numerous artists outside the Allman Brothers Band and is also an active philanthropist, volunteering his time for Habitat for Humanity as well as hosting an annual Christmas Jam show to raise money for them.
The Allman Brothers Band was one of the pioneering blues-based improvisational rock groups to gain international popularity during the mid 1970s, filling stadiums and helping former Georgia governor Jimmy Carter gain presidential election. Members included Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley.
In 1990, the Allman Brothers Band reunited for a tour. Betts soon after left after receiving a fax from Gregg Allman saying that he needed substance abuse treatment.
After his 25-year run in the Allman Brothers Band, Haynes established Gov’t Mule in 1994. Since then, they have released over 20 albums and performed thousands of memorable live shows across the globe, winning over fans who are drawn by their authentic and organic sound and improvisational prowess.
Initial performances by Haynes and bassist Allen Woody featured various keyboardists and bassists ranging from Dave Schools of Widespread Panic, Oteil Burbridge of Allman Brothers, Les Claypool from Primus Records, George Porter Jr of The Meters (George Porter Jr) Greg Rzab from Black Crowes and Andy Hess of Phish.
Haynes and his current band recorded their inaugural blues album “By A Thread” in 2009 with Danny Louis on keyboards and Jorgen Carlsson on bass, in an old-style dirty studio that Haynes describes as being more or less perfect to capture all their individual inflections and capture them through sound recording.

Haynes’ latest album Ashes and Dust showcases another side to him with stunning acoustic arrangements and soothing vocals; recorded live, it makes a beautiful addition to any music collection.
