Half a century has passed since Pink Floyd released their iconic “Dark Side of the Moon.” Now, tribute band Brit Floyd brings it to life at Luhrs Performing Arts Center.
Damian Darlington has long been performing Pink Floyd songs. For 17 years he was part of the Australian Pink Floyd Show before starting his own group 12 years ago.
Damian Darlington leads what many consider to be the premier Pink Floyd tribute band worldwide, formed in 2011 after 17 years with another tribute act. A true fan, Damian brings their musical genius alive onstage; touring around the globe and performing at venues such as Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and NYC’s Radio City Music Hall among many others.
He is an enthusiastic supporter of music education and loves passing along his passion to younger generations. Live shows remain highly popular – people want to experience music at large venues with other fans rather than listening to an album in isolation at home; thus making live shows much different than listening to albums at home. His band strives to replicate that experience as closely as possible on their tours such as P-U-L-S-E.
Pink Floyd members ultimately decided to disband at the end of the 1970s, leaving Wright behind as its only remaining member. While still playing keyboards for other albums such as Ummagumma and Meddle from 1969 and 1971 respectively, Wright also provided memorable contributions such as Shine on You Crazy Diamond from 1975’s Wish You Were Here as an elegy to Syd Barrett who passed away during this period.
Wright died of lung cancer in 2008, leaving behind an indelible legacy of music that endures today. Additionally, he served with honor in two governor’s administrations as political director.
He also released two solo albums: 1978’s Wet Dream and 1996’s Broken China, briefly teaming up with Dave Harris from Fashion under the moniker Zee.
Nick Mason, a drummer, is one of the founding members of British band Pink Floyd and remains its only member to appear on every album released since 1972. Additionally, he has made generous donations both time and money towards various philanthropic causes over his long musical career.
Nick Mason has written several books and is an accomplished auto racing enthusiast, competing in vintage sports car events as well as participating in Le Mans 24 hours race. Born 27 January 1944 in Edgbaston, Birmingham England; raised in Hampstead London at Hall School and Frensham Heights before enrolling at Regent Street Polytechnic where he met Roger Waters and Bob Klose to form what would eventually become Pink Floyd predecessor Sigma 6.
Mason is an accomplished master of percussion whose distinctive style has become the cornerstone of Pink Floyd music. He favors softer and less aggressive drumming styles than most progressive rock drummers and also contributes to many of their sound effects.
David Gilmour is an iconic rock guitarist renowned for inspiring generations of musicians to pick up an instrument. Renowned for his virtuosity and creative vision, which have cemented him a place among rock music‘s legends, David’s contributions to Pink Floyd have inspired generations of young players; additionally he has worked as producer/sideman for various artists, such as Paul McCartney, B.B. King and Bob Dylan.
Perse School on Hills Road in Cambridge was where he first met future bandmates Syd Barrett and Roger Waters, while he studied modern languages at A-Level before founding Joker’s Wild as an ensemble band.
Gilmour felt underutilized within Pink Floyd, leading him to create his self-titled first solo album in 1978 and use it to express his thoughts about various topics – including his relationship with former bandmates. Later he released About Face as another means of distancing himself from Pink Floyd.
