Brit Floyd – An Insight Into Pink Floyd’s Indelible Art

Damian Darlington founded his Pink Floyd tribute group after 17 years with the Australian Pink Floyd Show, leading a team of 11 musicians and singers in creating it.

Their early days

Barrett and Wright first made headlines during 1966 with their appearance at Spontaneous Underground events and key gig at London Free School’s magazine launch of International Times at Roundhouse, leading them into semi-residency gigs such as headlining the festival at Bath; eventually signing their first record deal and purchasing their Ford Transit van as live transport.

Atom Heart Mother and Meddle cemented Pink Floyd’s reign at the top of their field. While Atom Heart Mother offered up experimental soundscapes, Meddle displayed Waters’s lyrics on songs such as Echoes and Comfortably Numb – two key songs of that album‘s success.

Their rise to fame

After becoming regulars at London’s Countdown Club and other Spontaneous Underground ‘happenings’, The Floyd were noticed by Peter Jenner and Andrew King and quickly gained prominence within the music scene. Soon thereafter they signed their first recording contract and by 1966 had become an established band on the move.

Early Floyd material drew heavily upon psychedelia and pastoral tradition for inspiration, using various effects to produce a soundscape which was both hallucinatory and hypnotic. Furthermore, themes of alienation, isolation and mental fragility were explored through songs like ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’ written by Waters that displayed his considerable talent lyrically.

By 1970’s release of The Dark Side of the Moon, they had achieved widespread acclaim – becoming rock history’s best-selling album. Atom Heart Mother and Meddle followed, both being widely lauded with Gilmour demonstrating his exceptional guitar playing on both albums.

Their enduring legacy

Their current line-up

Established in 2011, Brit Floyd provides performances accompanied by an enormous, immaculately produced state-of-the-art production, recreating Pink Floyd’s stunning soundscapes and visuals with reverence. Traveling in two trucks packed with musical equipment, projectors, lights and even inflatable pigs.

Damian Darlington (Guitar, Vocals and Musical Director), Ian Cattell (Bass Guitar), Edo Scordo (Guitars), Ryan Saranich (Saxophone) and Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila (Lead & Background Vocals) comprise the current lineup. For select shows on their 2024 tour PJ Olsson from Alan Parsons Live Project will join as lead vocalist; each show also includes an immersive light display and stunning circular screen for maximum impact.
