A Review of REZZ’s Halloween Album and Mixtape

REZZ is capitalizing on her position as bass music queen by releasing both a mixtape and album that showcase Halloween-themed soundscapes. The Canadian DJ and producer has amassed an ardent fan base known as the Cult of Rezz and established herself on festival circuit thanks to her spellbinding productions – garnering notice from industry heavyweights such as Skrillex and deadmau5 while building her career around dark, minimal techno sounds that have earned the admiration of industry icons like Skrillex and deadmau5 among others.

REZZ is well known for her signature distorted production and deep bass tones, often creating hybrid tracks between electro, glitch hop and bass house known as New Beat. REZZ showcased an alternative side to herself that stood in stark contrast to her usual style yet still upheld what made her successful.

This set was one of the highlights of 2018, and definitely delivered. From production excellence and sound quality excellence, to breathtaking visual effects that perfectly embodied Halloween festivities – and left fans craving more – it was truly spectacular.

The album may not match up to their live show, but it still makes for a worthwhile listen. The songs are catchy and energetic – my only complaint being they can sometimes sound too clubby for my tastes, though this should only be considered minor. Overall, though, this release should appeal to anyone interested in EDM, or looking for some great bass-heavy tunes.

Spiral marks the Canadian DJ’s first major release in over two years and features many of her signature elements – such as spooky bass lines, bangers, and guest singers – from previous works. A handful of standout tracks should please fans while the remainder remains rather average.
